Celestia, the modular data network, has recently unveiled its highly anticipated Ginger update, a major improvement aimed at boosting network performance. Set to be implemented in November 2024, this update will significantly reduce block times from 12 seconds to just 6 seconds. The objective is to enhance the network’s transaction volume and completion times, leading to a more efficient and streamlined network.

The Ginger update will bring about several important changes. According to information shared on Celestia’s blog, this update will double the network’s data accessibility, allowing users and developers to conduct transactions at a much faster pace. As part of the update, a transaction size limit of 2 MiB has been set, and there are now restrictions on the number of PayForBlobs (PFB) and non-PFB messages per block. Each block will support a maximum of 600 PFB and 200 non-PFB messages.

The Ginger update is scheduled to be activated at block 2348907, with the estimated block time indicating that it will go live in November. Following the transition to the Mocha testnet, full integration into the main network is planned for December. This step lays the groundwork for future scalability, potentially enabling an increase in block size to 8 MB every 6 seconds.

In addition to these enhancements, the Ginger update will also introduce the use of BBR (Bottleneck Bandwidth and Round-trip propagation time) congestion control as the default setting for Celestia. This adjustment will significantly improve efficiency, especially for large data transmissions in real-world peer-to-peer networks. Furthermore, the transaction validation process will be accelerated, thereby enhancing the overall transaction capacity of the network.

With recent updates and a successful funding round that raised $100 million, industry predictions suggest that the TIA price could soon reach $10. As of now, the TIA price has already increased by 6% to $6.06, just below the resistance level of $6.5. This upward trend in price reflects the growing optimism surrounding the anticipated benefits of the Ginger update.

The Ginger update is viewed as a vital step towards Celestia’s goal of enhancing network performance and expanding its user base. The strengthened technical infrastructure will make the network more attractive to existing users and new developers alike.
