Tether, a prominent player in the cryptocurrency market, has unveiled a groundbreaking artificial intelligence development kit (SDK) that places a strong emphasis on user privacy. At the Plan ₿ event in Lugano, Switzerland on October 26, Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino showcased this innovative technology. The kit, called “Local AI,” allows written code to run on a variety of devices, from low-cost phones to high-end smartphones, laptops, and even large systems with H100 processors. Furthermore, this versatile technology can be applied across a wide range of devices, including smart refrigerators and automotive entertainment systems.
Flexible and Modular Structure
Tether’s Local AI SDK stands out as a technology developed to protect users’ privacy rights. Using peer-to-peer (P2P) data structures, the SDK can securely share weight data and fine-tuning information for AI models across devices.
One of the main advantages of this modular structure, which is compatible with various models like Marian and Llama, is its ability to work across different devices and operate locally. Tether has also announced that the SDK will be released as open-source after undergoing comprehensive testing.
According to Ardoino, the kit allows individuals to perform operations entirely on their device without sharing personal data with third parties. To demonstrate this, a local and privacy-focused translation app was showcased during the presentation.
Approach Centered on Privacy
Tether’s innovation aims to meet the increasing demand for user privacy in the cryptocurrency world. Ardoino emphasized that the foundations of Local AI were built upon the open-source project “holepunchto/bare,” which plays a crucial role in the SDK’s structure. This statement underscores Tether’s commitment to both innovation and privacy.
The Local AI technology from Tether is expected to attract privacy-conscious users. The eventual release of the kit as open-source will make this technology accessible to a wider audience, including developers, and serve as an invitation to communities interested in AI and privacy-focused technologies.
